Payment can be made through Paypal, Mastercard or Visa Credit Cards, and Mastercard or Visa Debit Cards. When you click on your shopping cart you are shown your purchases and postage options, if they are correct, scroll down and click “Proceed to Checkout”. On the checkout page you enter your name, delivery address, phone, etc, then at the bottom of the page there is a default highlight in the Paypal box. If you would prefer to pay by credit or debit card then simply click the button below that says debit/credit cards and a box will open for you to enter your card details. We do not retain your card details.

Buying plates on Platemine is as easy as buying them on eBay, although sometimes cheaper. We are not registered for VAT, the price you see is the price you pay.

Current “Sale” Plates

There are normally a few plates from one or two states on sale at any particular time. They appear on the page for their state, and you can find some of them on the “Bargains” page.

On the “Sets” page there are also some reductions if you buy a set. I normally add sets once a month to clear any overstocks, or to clear dented or damaged plates, and generally have sets of all 50 states available. https://platemine.co.uk/product-category/sets/

Here on the website we charge a standard £2 flat postage rate for website orders, to UK addresses only. Buy one plate, buy two plates, buy fifty plates, as long as you pay for them all at the same time then your postage cost will be £2. We ship orders on the next business day (Monday – Friday) after payment, so please allow 4 to 5 working days for delivery although it is sometimes faster. We often (3 weeks out of 4) also post on Saturday mornings, but can’t guarantee this.

We use Royal Mail Second Class for all orders of up to 6 plates, and either a courier or Royal Mail for more than 6 plates. If we use a courier we will email you the tracking details so as you can follow the progress of your package online. First class upgrade is 70p for up to six plates. If you are buying 6 or fewer plates and want them quickly then add the first class upgrade to your shopping basket with all the plates and we will post them first class. Please allow 2 – 3 working days for delivery. (It is 70p per order, not 70p per plate, just add it once.)

Please note that we only post plates to the UK. That is England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We do not post to other countries.

For orders over 2kg (generally about 8 plates, but up to 16, depending on whether they are steel or aluminium) there may be a courier surcharge if you live outside the normal courier delivery areas, for example Northern Ireland, Highlands, Islands, and anywhere else the couriers add a surcharge).

Use the search facility at the top right of each page. Click on the magnifying glass, type your initials (or anything else you like) into the box, and see if there is a match.

It works for numbers too. If you want to search for plates from, say,  the 1960’s then search for “196” and it will return all plates with “196” in the title, including 1960, 1961, 1962 etc.

The downside of the search is that it looks at everything in each listing title. For example, if you are looking for the initials FOR then it will, regardless of the registration number, include in the results every plate that has caliFORnia in the title.

No, these plates are for collection or display only. They may not be used on a vehicle on the road in the UK, USA, or anywhere else.

All plates are 12 inches x 6 inches. There are a few exceptions, for example motorcycle plates are smaller. Any plates that are not 12″ x 6″ will be clearly indicated.

All plates have been used on a vehicle, and will show signs of this. Some are in mint condition, on others there may be scratches, dents, bends, chips, etc. Check out the large photo for the condition of each plate, the plate you see is the plate you get. Some of the embossed plates have a slight natural bend from the manufacturing process and so do not lay perfectly flat. We accept returns if you are not happy with your plate, see the returns faq, so you can buy with confidence.

I sell plates both through this website and through eBay. The prices are generally the same or pretty close, although sometimes they are cheaper here on the website as I don’t have to pay such high selling fees compared to what eBay charge me. Also, my costs for plates can vary depending on when/where I buy them, so if I add more plates they may be at lower or higher prices than similar plates already listed. Postage is cheaper through the website, as eBay charge me fees on both the sale price of the plate AND what you pay for postage. I offer cheaper postage to balance out the eBay fees that I don’t have to pay here on platemine.co.uk

The plate above got me neutral feedback and the comment “Poor Condition”. The picture above (the large version, when you click on it) is the exact picture used  in the ebay listing, and the title of the listing was: “£3.99 rough condition AMERICAN LICENSE PLATE various states”, and the first paragraph of the description in the listing started with, in big letters: “Genuine American License Plate. These are all in rough condition and have various defects including dents, bends, scratches, scrapes, rust, etc, see the individual photos for the condition of your plate. All 12″x 6″ unless noted otherwise”. I wonder what the buyer expected to receive?
